We’ll Miss You, Joanne!
Nantucket Cottage Hospital is saying goodbye this week to nurse practitioner Joanne Bushong, who is retiring on Friday after more than 13 years of service to the hospital and the island community.
“It’s been an emotional time this past week with my patients coming in to say goodbye,” she said. “This is a community where you go to your patients’ birthdays, their funerals, the football games. I learned about the community through my patients and their families.”
Bushong started at Nantucket Cottage Hospital as a nurse on the medical/surgical floor and the Emergency Department before settling into her role as a nurse practitioner for the specialty physician clinics, assisting visiting doctors with teledermatology, pulmonary function and pain management patients. Nantucket Cottage Hospital Safety Fair

2015 Employee Recognition Luncheon
Nantucket Cottage Hospital celebrated its longtime employees this week with service awards during its annual Employee Appreciation Luncheon.

Jane Bonvini Memorial Fund Scholarship Awarded
Nantucket Cottage Hospital medical/surgical nurse Sarah Trottier, RN, has been selected as the first recipient of a Jane Bonvini Memorial Fund scholarship. Trottier is currently pursuing her BSN.
The Jane Bonvini Memorial Fund was established in honor of Jane Elizabeth Bonvini who died in September 2014. Jane worked at Nantucket Cottage Hospital for 27 years as an RN, retiring in 2010 as the Vice President of Patient Care Services and Director of Nursing. The fund was created by Jane’s family to support educational opportunities for island nurses. (more…)
NCH Appoints Major Gifts Officers
Two major gifts officers have been appointed this week at Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
Maryellen Burke and Chris Glowacki will support the ongoing capital campaign for the new Nantucket Cottage Hospital building project, and continue to grow philanthropy at the hospital.
“Maryellen and Chris are joining the hospital at an exciting time for our capital campaign and will bring their considerable talents and experience to bear on this important project,” said Courtney O’Neill, the executive director of the Nantucket Cottage Hospital Foundation. “They will also bring new energy and resources to our other philanthropy programs to help secure the future of the hospital for the island community.” (more…)
