Nantucket Cottage Hospital Emergency Department Wedding!

The Emergency Department at Nantucket Cottage Hospital is where lives are saved and today, it was also where two lives were united.

Amid a bustling Friday afternoon in the Emergency Department, Tessa Sandler and Chad Denton were married, with doctors, nurses and other hospital staff throwing makeshift confetti on the newlyweds.

The couple had planned a ceremony for Saturday at the Brant Point Lighthouse, but Sandler’s 89-year-old grandmother Arlene Sandler had a fall on Friday morning as she was helping to prepare the flower bouquets and was taken to Nantucket Cottage Hospital by ambulance.

When the family learned that Arlene had to be airlifted to a Boston hospital for further treatment and would not be able to attend the wedding the next day, they decided to hold the ceremony right then and there. (more…)

“Nantucket is #1”

Dick Tilley patient photo 796x419

Instead of heading to a Boston medical facility, Harwich resident Richard R. Tilley recently traveled to Nantucket Cottage Hospital for his medical procedure with one of our visiting gastroenterologists, Dr. Douglas Horst. Mr. Tilley had this to say following his NCH experience:

“All aspects of my hospital stay from reception to discharge exceeded all my expectations. Your staff was professional, courteous, patient caring, timely and knowledgeable. In all my 85 years of hospital experiences, Nantucket is #1.”

Rushed to Nantucket Cottage Hospital, Belash has only a vague recollection of being on a gurney as he was taken to the hospital’s emergency department. His clearest memory is seeing a doctor on a television monitor consulting with the emergency room physicians at his side.

The doctor on the screen was a stroke specialist at Massachusetts General Hospital who was communicating in real time with Belash’s doctors on the island through Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s tele-stroke program. The clinical team quickly diagnosed Belash’s condition as a stroke. (more…)

“You never know when you will need medical care. When Bob became critically ill with a life-threatening infection, all of the hospital’s efforts worked in sync to save his life and return him to health. Life happens when you’re planning something else. Investing in the new facility is investing in your health, your future.”
