Thanks to Nantucket Bank!

Thanks to the support of hundreds of Nantucket families, businesses and organizations, the work to prepare our site for the construction of the island’s new hospital is underway! One of the many community partners helping to make this project a reality is Nantucket Bank, which has generously contributed to our capital campaign. On Wednesday, January 18th, Neil Marttila, the bank’s senior vice president and market executive, stopped by the hospital to help Dr. Hartmann with the move of the Founders Building toward its new location on Vesper Lane. Thank you to Nantucket Bank and everyone who has contributed to this historic initiative!

The Birthplace Upgrades Fetal Monitoring Technology

The Birthplace has implemented new technology to improve fetal monitoring for expecting mothers at Nantucket Cottage Hospital.

On Jan. 12th, The Birthplace went live with the Obix perinatal data system, a comprehensive system for central, bedside and remote electronic fetal monitoring. The new system will integrate with Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s new electronic medical record system, Epic, when it goes live in the spring, and will help hospital clinicians improve their practice, educate their staff, and promote patient safety.

Remembering Roy Flanders

Nantucket Cottage Hospital is mourning the loss of longtime island resident Roy Flanders, who passed away this week.

Roy was a patient and friend of the hospital who in 2012 announced an incredible $250,000 matching challenge grant to NCH to inspire the island community to support its hospital.

“I tried to whittle it down to five words: Imagine Nantucket without our hospital. Can you imagine?” Roy asked on the front page of The Inquirer and Mirror in December 2012. “The thing is, I’ve been there so many times, especially in the last year with some health issues. I hope to encourage as many people to help out.” (more…)

New Hospital Construction Update

DCIM100GOPROGOPR2137.

Below is the complete version of a letter to the editor that was published in the Dec. 15 edition of The Inquirer and Mirror to update the island community about the new hospital project:

We have entered an exciting yet challenging chapter in the 105-year history of Nantucket Cottage Hospital as we prepare to build the island’s new hospital. We would like to provide an update to the community about our progress to date, and what’s to come in the months ahead.

If you’ve driven by the hospital recently, you’ve probably noticed that our campus at 57 Prospect Street has begun to transform.  Before we can break ground for the new hospital, we are completing several enabling projects to create space for the new building, which will be located directly behind the existing hospital in the southwest corner of our property.
