Dermatology & Teledermatology

Overview

Overview

What would a Nantucket summer be without a day at the beach? But all that sun poses risks, and that means quality dermatology services are particularly important for island residents and visitors. Whether it’s an in-person appointment with a visiting dermatologist or a teledermatology session, we can evaluate and treat an array of skin conditions here at Nantucket Cottage Hospital.

Our dermatology team is led by:

  • Joseph C. Kvedar, MD; MGH Department of Dermatology; Director, Center for Connected Health, Mass General Brigham

Not only does Nantucket Cottage Hospital bring the finest dermatology care in New England to the island, we also provide even more access to dermatologists with our teledermatology program. Through a secure and confidential video link, island patients can be seen remotely by Mass General dermatologists along with the assistance of our nursing staff here on-site. Digital imaging allows dermatologists to closely examine skin lesions while they converse, on screen, with patients in real-time. Through remote, web-based monitoring, patients can reduce clinical visits for chronic diseases such as psoriasis or for conditions that require long-term follow-up, such as melanoma.

Please contact the NCH specialty clinic scheduler at (508) 825-1000 to make an appointment with Dr. Kvedar.

SPOTLIGHT

NCH Skin Cancer Symposium

The Nantucket Cottage Hospital Skin Cancer Symposium, featuring visiting dermatologist Dr. Abrar A. Qureshi, MD, MPH, was held on August 2, 2014. The island has one of the highest incidence rates of melanoma in Massachusetts, and Dr. Qureshi provided critical information about prevention and treatment. This free event was co-sponsored by the Town of Nantucket's Board of Health.
